Applications of Nitrogen Generators

Nitrogen is a quite sought after gas as it has a wide variety of industrial uses. Most of these industries, need either nitrogen or liquid nitrogen generators on-site. Nitrogen generators these days are fitted with nitrogen separation membrane technology, which is economical, simpler and more dependable than the units without it. These are industries which need nitrogen, and thus nitrogen generators.

1.      The Food and Beverage Industry: Food and beverages begin to age and perish as soon as they are produced. This is due the activity of bacteria and similar micro-organisms or oxidation. A nitrogen flooded atmosphere solves both problems by stopping these organisms from growing and preventing oxidation.

2.      The Tyre Industry:Aircraft tyres are filled with nitrogen instead of air as it is drier than air. Most premier automobile companies fill the tyres of their cars and bikes with nitrogen, as it remains at a stable pressure if and when heated or cooled. Also, being a larger molecule than air or oxygen, it doesn’t penetrate through the tyre easily.

3.      The Petrochemical Industry:Nitrogenis used to test pipelines, transport chemical agents and regeneration of used catalysts, in addition to providing an inert environment during cleaning and protection of process vehicles to ensure safety.

4.      The Pharmaceutical Industry: Nitrogen is used in packaging.

5.      The Metallurgical Industry: Nitrogen is used to protect ferrous and non-ferrous metals during annealing (a heating process to toughen metals), and other metallurgical industrial processes like neutral tempering, cementing, hard brazing, stress relieving, cyanide hardening, metal-powder sintering and extrusion die cooling.

6.      The Fire Protection Industry:Fire prevention systems have nitrogen generators to produce an atmosphere that has a low oxygen content which suppresses fires.
7.      The Electronics Industry: Nitrogen is used as an antioxidant in the production of semi-conductors and electric circuits, heat treatment of finished products, and in blowing and cleaning.
